Dr Heather MacInnis

Heather is originally from Newfoundland, Canada. After completing a Science degree in Biology and Psychology at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Heather went on to study Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, Ontario. This was an intensive post-graduate 4 year program, giving Heather the foundation to go on to a career in Chiropractic. After graduating in 2000, an international experience was high on the wish list, and led to a wonderful Associate opportunity in Kilkenny.

In 2003 Heather established a clinic, helping thousands of people since then with both acute and chronic pain. Since then, an interest in healthy lifestyle led her to continue her education in the Health and Wellness field, completing a certificate in Health and Wellness Coaching with the Institute of Health Sciences in Dublin in 2019. Heather has since completed a certificate in Lifestyle Medicine with the European Lifestyle Medicine Organisation.

The training in Lifestyle Medicine allows her to identify aspects of a person’s lifestyle that may contribute to chronic disease, and how to help those people make changes to optimise their own health.

CHIROPRACTIC SERVICES

An initial consultation identifies areas of the spine which are out of alignment &/or restricted. We look for tight muscles, spasms, postural compensations/imbalances, and areas of weakness. These in combination affect the body’s ability to work properly and at ease, leading to symptoms of pain, stiffness, discomfort and/or weakness. We can use a combination of the following treatments to address the problem, focusing on reduction of pain as quickly as possible, then rehabilitating the area to prevent/minimise future issues.

adjustments /MANIPULATiON

The specialty of chiropractors, adjustments are specific high speed, low force movements which are guided to individual restricted joints of the spine or extremity.  Manipulation is a very effective way of restoring normal movement in a joint that is not moving properly.

mobilisation

Repetitive slow and gentle mobility work through restricted joints can help restore normal motion at areas of pain and dysfunction.

soft tissue & muscle work

such as trigger point therapy or active muscle release.

exercise prescription

Exercises are prescribed to help balance areas of the body which are problematic/symptomatic. These include stretching, mobility exercises and strengthening.  Core work is integral to protecting the spine and preventing injury and ongoing problems.
